Hi, I’m Karyn
I’ve always loved tinkering with things (often caught by my husband raiding his tools). I enjoy trying to improve, invent, scavenge and create.
I was a late starter with horses, learning to ride alongside my daughters and getting my first pony in my early 40s. This winter, for the first time in five years, I had a winter off horses. I turned both out at a friend’s property and suddenly found myself with a lot of spare time!
One thing that has always frustrated me is hay nets. Why does the drawstring often match the colour of the net, making it hard to find? Why isn’t there a stopper on the end so the drawstring can’t disappear back through the loops?
So, I decided to have a go at making my own.
After plenty of trial and error, testing and tweaking, I believe I’ve created some pretty amazing hay nets. They’re strong, colourful and, most importantly, practical.
The netting is UV-stable, fade-resistant and herd-tested for durability. The drawstring is deliberately a contrasting colour, so it’s easy to find, and it’s thick and soft, making it easy to knot — and just as importantly, easy to un-knot! The end loops are designed so as not to pull back through. No more re-threading the drawstring!
And what makes an Equi-Knots hay net unique?
It’s not just the materials or the little practical details. It’s the multitude of ways you can use it — tie it, clip it, hang it, or throw it on the ground.
Equi-Knots started with my frustrations with hay net designs, a bit of spare time and a determination to make something better.
And I’m only just getting started.
